Robotron: 2084 wurde bereits 1984 entwickelt. Da die Konsole 7800 aber schon kurz nach einer Testveröffentlichung wieder auf Eis gelegt wurde, erschien das Spiel erst nach der endgültigen Veröffentlichung der Konsole zwei Jahre später.
